Building Professional Development Plan:
The number of students in grades 9-11 who are proficient in Concepts and Problem Solving, as measured by the ITED, will increase by 5% or more from 2010-11.
The number of students in grades 9-11 who are proficient in Reading Comprehension, as measured by the ITED, will increase by 5% or more from 2010-11.
Individual Building Goal I:
ITED scores need to be improved in the area of math. We continue to look at ITEDS and the relationship of those achievement levels in our classroom. As a district working on math activities across curriculum will enhance math throughout the high school.
Activities will be used within the Business classroom to build math skills using various tools to solve problems. Students need to understand math is not just a class; it is a life skill that is applied every day.
Learning Opportunities:
Students will use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint to increase their math skills. The concepts that will be taught using these programs include formulas, charts and tables. Reinforcing math takes place in every curricula area.
Students results improve on ITED’s and able to have success with the activities in class.
Indicators of success:
ITED scores will improve.
By using the programs listed above students will become knowledgeable in applying math skills using a variety of technology tools.
Iowa Teaching Standards Criteria:
5f, 1b, 6d, 1f
Extension OR Goal Beyond:
To increase the achievement of students of poverty at ELC High School, we will incorporate common characteristics of high achieving schools (which included celebration of academic achievement, more frequent assessment, emphasis on non-fiction writing, and collaborative scoring) as well as strategies from Ruby Payne training. Evidence of success will be within the subgroup scores for reading comprehension and Problem Solving on the ITED as compared to 2010-11.
Data or supporting evidence for this goal: (Only for “Goal Beyond”)
Data from students who qualify for free and reduced lunches (SES) support we have a high population of poverty in our district. Information from Ruby Payne will allow us to differentiate our teaching strategies to continue to accommodate all students. We are hoping to build relationships within the classroom to motivate students to have success.
Learning Opportunities:
Students will set a goal for their computer applications class, one other class they are taking and one for outside of school. Once a week the students will visit the goals and use procedural self talk in their reflection to determine how they have done on the goals, what they need to do better and set new goals.
Indicators of success:
Reflection journals will be read to determine whether the goal setting helped the students in their academics and outside of school.
